Northland Drive Reconstruction Offers Easy Access for Motorists

Northland Drive was reconstructed in 2016 in concrete from northbound Northwestern Highway to Greenfield Road at a cost of $1.84 million, paid by Southfield Street Improvement Bond.

The road was changed from a 4-lane boulevard to a 3-lane road. The project was completed in November and now includes a new storm drainage system, new sanitary sewer crossing and a new 10-foot wide asphalt path on the north side. Following a 7-month road closure, Northland Drive now offers a smooth ride and easy access for motorists.

Proposed SMART Bus Northland Routing Workshops Open to Public

As the City of Southfield and Southfield DDA continue to review options for the former Northland Mall property, we are also reviewing proposed new or adjusted bus routes for DDOT/SMART buses around that area of the city.

There will be several meetings open to the public in June where we are asking local residents, business owners and others who live, work and play in Southfield to come share their ideas. We are in the process of working with DDOT/SMART to plan the new bus routing around the Northland Mall area and we want to ensure we uncover the best routing and connection options for as many riders as possible.

The meetings will be held at:

  • June 22 @ 6:30 p.m. at Providence Hospital in Southfield;
  • June 27 @ 10 a.m. at Rosa Parks Transit Center in Detroit;
  • June 27 @ 6:30 p.m. at Oakland Community College in Southfield; and
  • June 29 @ 6:30 p.m. at Northwest Activities Center in Detroit.

More information is available on this flyer.

RSVPs are not required but you can email questions to DDOT_9mile@detrotimi.gov. We welcome your ideas and interest!
