Family Fun & Safety Night Allows Residents to “Imagine The Possibilities” to Redevelop Northland Center

On Wednesday, June 22, from 5:30 – 9:45 p.m., the City of Southfield will host the annual Family Fun & Safety Night on the front lawn of City Hall (Southfield Municipal Complex at 26000 Evergreen Road). Free fun for the whole family includes games, crafts, inflatables (socks required!), a movie and so much more!

This year a new twist is added to the event. As the city continues to pave the way for redevelopment of the Northland Center property, Southfield residents are invited to “imagine the possibilities” for the future of the former mall site, located in the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) District at Eight Mile Road and the Lodge Freeway. From 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Family Fun & Safety Night, representatives from OHM Advisors, an integrated architecture, engineering and planning firm selected by the city as master planner, will be on hand to gain input from the community on the redevelopment plans for Northland Center.

Residents will be engaged at the event in visioning activities to consider the opportunities for the site, and identify specific types of activities and uses that will best serve the community at this landmark location. The preliminary vision is to provide community members with something new and incredible – a center for living, a place with an energy and pulse that will echo throughout Southfield. Come to the “Imagine the Possibilities” tent, which will be located near the library, and make your voice heard and share your preferences for use of the historic mall space.
